Melbourne Police Department Now Accepting Letters of Intent for Law Enforcement Trust Fund

The Melbourne Police Department will be accepting letters of intent for Law Enforcement Trust Fund funding donations to not-for-profit organizations for a two-week period, Monday, July 19, through Friday, July 30.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department will be accepting letters of intent for Law Enforcement Trust Fund funding donations to not-for-profit organizations for a two-week period, Monday, July 19, through Friday, July 30.

Applications must be received by the Melbourne Police Department, Chief David Gillespie’s office, no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 30.

The Melbourne Police Department’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund provides donations to not-for-profit organizations that promote programs towards drug abuse education, drug treatment, drug prevention, crime prevention, or safe neighborhood.

An organization that receives contributions from other City funding sources may be excluded from this program.

For example, if an organization receives funding from a Community Redevelopment Agency or the Community Development Block Grant Program, it may not also receive funding from the General Fund.

However, an organization may receive funding from one funding source for multiple uses.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

■ The maximum funding limit for one organization will be $1,000.

■ LETF funds are made only to not-for-profit organizations.

■ LETF funds must be spent to benefit the residents of Melbourne.

■ Organizations must subscribe to values that create an environment within the City in which all persons can enjoy equal rights and opportunities regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, physical, mental or economic status.

■ A letter of intent outlining the use of the LETF funds must be submitted on or before the due date by every organization that wishes to apply.

■ Organizations that receive LETF funds must enter into a contract with the City of Melbourne prior to receipt of LETF funds.

■ Organizations will be required to provide documentation to support the purpose of the LETF funding.

■ LETF funding may not be available every year.

IMPORTANT DATES

■ July 30, 2021 – Deadline for organizations to submit letters of intent.

■ August 4, 2021 (tentative date) – Letters of intent reviewed and funding recommendations are presented to the Chief of Police.

■ September 15, 2021 (tentative date) – City Council Meeting.  Award of funding.

■ March 15, 2022 – Annual Progress Report Deadline.
