Popular Rocket Launch Viewing Area ‘Space View Park’ in Titusville Reopens After Damage Caused by Hurricane Irma

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Space View Park, a popular viewing spot for rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center, has reopened following completion of repairs stemming from damages caused by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

The park, located on the shore of the Indian River Lagoon in Titusville, reopened Friday and will be open daily from dusk to dawn.

Repairs, at a cost of $2 million, included replacement of observation docks, seawall repair and replacement, sidewalks, repair and replacement of the rock revetment, new lighting and landscaping upgrades.

The contractor was Rush Construction Inc.

The park is not only great for launches, but also includes a fishing area and boat dock, picnic areas, mission logos carved in granite and a walkthrough history of manned space exploration.

This park provides:

– Close to downtown and restaurants
– Compare your handprints to those of the Mercury Astronauts
– Gaze across the beautiful Indian River at the shuttle launch pads
– Live audio feed direct from NASA control room. Visitors will be able to listen as they sit on the river’s edge with no obstruction of the shuttle and listen to the launch process from the park
– Picnic Areas/Shelters
– Restrooms
– View the astronaut’s mission logos carved in black granite
– Walkthrough history of space from the Chinese discovery of Rockets in 3rd century BC to Space Station Freedom

Space View Park is located less than 15 miles directly across from the launch pads. The Park is the first and only walk in the nation that honors America’s astronauts as well as the men and women behind the scenes who helped America lead the world in space exploration.
