BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Fran Loh has just about seen it all. The day before she was born, President Warren G. Harding signed a joint congressional resolution, declaring an end to America’s war with Germany, Austria and Hungary.
Later that year, insulin was discovered. The year was 1921.
Fast forward to July 3, 2021, and Loh was at the Hilton Hotel in Cocoa Beach, Florida celebrating her 100th birthday.
Loh was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She married Joseph Kennedy in 1945.
They were both in New York when the announcement came about V-J Day, which signified the ending of World War II. She and her husband Joe were two of those that were dancing in the street celebrating.
Loh lived in New York for 41 years before moving to Maryland with her husband and five children. She lived in Maryland until her husband passed away in 1984. The following year she moved to Florida.
After making her way to Brevard County, she met Frank Loh through Our Saviour’s single/widowed/divorce group. They married and were together for 10 years before his passing.
The celebration held in honor of Loh’s 100th birthday was packed full of family and friends. Tributes poured in all night.
Franmarie Kennedy said this of her mom, “Our mom teaches through example. The lessons you learn are caught and not taught.” She added, “You have to be in close proximity to see that she is, absolutely, someone who chooses joy every day.”
When speaking about his mom and dad, Bill Kennedy said, “the greatest thing that was given to me and my siblings was they instilled a faith in God.” He went on to say, “They also instilled family values.”
Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the Cocoa Beach Hilton was all about family. The impact Loh has had on everyone she has encountered is immeasurable. Even to this day, at the age of 100, Fran Loh continues to make a difference.
