COLLEGE SPORTS: Florida Tech Lacrosse Captain Olivia Going Named Academic All-American

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Another honor has rolled in for former Florida Tech women’s lacrosse captain and recent graduate Olivia Going as she has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Second Team.

Going becomes the first women’s lacrosse player in program history to earn Academic All-America honors.

The award recognizes the nation’s top scholar-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.

A native of West Islip, New York, Going is a five-year member of the women’s lacrosse program.

She graduated summa cum laude from Florida Tech with an undergraduate degree in accounting in Spring 2020 and then graduated in Spring 2021 with a master’s degree in accounting and financial forensics while boasting a perfect 4.00-grade point average.

Going was named the Outstanding Student of the Year for the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business in 2019-20 and 2020-21 and was a Florida Tech Distinguished Student Scholar in 2019-20.

She was named to the Dean’s List eight times over her career while also earning spots on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Florida Tech Athletic Director’s Honor Roll all five years.

Going is currently studying for her CPA and is set to start a full-time position at Ernst & Young in New York City this fall working in the Forensic and Integrity Services Department.

Going concluded her playing career this past spring as the most decorated defender in program history.

She was selected to the All-SSC First Team this season after leading the league in ground balls (22) and ground balls per game (2.44), and ranking third in the SSC in caused turnovers (15) and caused turnovers per game (1.67). Going becomes just the fourth women’s lacrosse player in SSC history to earn four first-team honors.

Going earned First Team All-South Region honors from the IWLCA as well this spring, giving her four All-Region awards for her career.

She also raked in her second career All-American nod in 2021 as she was named a Second Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She earned Third Team All-American honors from the IWLCA as a sophomore in 2018.

Going finished off her Florida Tech career ranking second in program history for ground balls (182) and caused turnovers (104).

She is also featured in the SSC record book, ranking tied for second for most caused turnovers in a game (7), third for career ground balls (182), and fifth for career ground balls (104) and ground balls in a season with 60 in 2018.

The CoSIDA At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, water polo, bowling, rowing, field hockey, and beach volleyball for women.
