Florida Tech Women’s Lacrosse Team Earns IWLCA Academic Honors for Recording 3.6 Team GPA

Florida Tech has now earned honors squad status five out of the last six years

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team along with six Panthers have been recognized by the IWLCA for their academic success.

The Panthers were tabbed an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for recording a 3.60 team GPA in 2020-21. Tech joins 319 other schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA that were named Academic Honor Squads. To qualify as an honor squad, teams must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Florida Tech has now earned honors squad status five out of the last six years. The IWLCA did not present the award in 2020.

In addition to the overall prowess of the team, six members of the squad were awarded for their own individual efforts in the classroom as they were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Representing Tech on the honor roll are Olivia Going (Gr., Masters of Accounting & Financial Forensics, 4.00 GPA), Mollie Kaplan (Gr., Masters of Business Administration, 4.00 GPA), Morgan Leonard (Jr., Ocean Engineering, 3.52 GPA), Caroline MacLeod (Jr., Ocean Engineering, 3.83 GPA), Madison Savje (Jr., Ocean Engineering, 3.85 GPA), and Alexis Townsend (Gr., Masters of Operations Research, 3.86 GPA).

The Crimson & Gray racked up numerous academic awards in 2020-21, with the team placing 13 student-athletes on the Dean’s List in Fall 2020, with four Panthers earning 4.0 GPAs. In Spring 2021, Tech had 14 players named to the Dean’s List, with six earning 4.0 GPAs.

Going, Kaplan and Lindsey Marquardt were named 2020-21 Outstanding Students of the Year for their respective academic colleges, while MacLeod and Savje were tabbed Florida Tech Distinguished Student Scholars this past spring semester. Additionally, 19 women’s lacrosse student-athletes were named to the 2021 Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
