Fred Weakens to Tropical Depression, Expected to Strengthen Back to Tropical Storm by Friday Night

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The latest report from the National Hurricane Center on Thursday shows ‘Fred’ has weakened to a tropical depression temporarily as it moves over northern coast of Cuba today.

National Hurricane Center is anticipating that ‘Fred’ will strengthen to a tropical storm as it approaches on the Florida Keys and South Florida late Friday/ early Saturday morning.

Fred is currently moving to west-northwest at 14 mph and carrying 35 mph max sustained winds.

Fred is not expected to strengthen into a hurricane.

Brevard County could see some lingering storms and possible tornado threats on Sunday as Fred moves through Central Florida.

At this time, Brevard County is not forecasted to take a direct impact.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for…
* Southeastern Bahamas
* The Cuban provinces of Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Las Tunas,
Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantanamo

A Tropical Storm Watch will likely be issued for portions of the Florida Keys and the southern Florida Peninsula this afternoon.

Fred is expected to move near the southeastern Bahamas today, move along or just north of eastern and central Cuba later today and Friday, and be near the Florida Keys and southern Florida on Saturday.
