PREP FOOTBALL: Heritage vs. Palm Bay Week 1 Rivalry Game Postponed Due to BPS Quarantine Protocol

Pirates, Panthers will now begin prep football seasons on Sept. 3

The Heritage Panthers and Palm Bay Pirates Week 1 regular-season opener has been postponed due to quarantine protocol. The game was set for Friday at Heritage High School A rescheduled date remains to be determined.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Heritage Panthers and Palm Bay Pirates Week 1 regular-season opener has been postponed due to quarantine protocol.

The game was set for Friday at Heritage High School with kickoff taking place at 7 p.m.

A rescheduled date remains to be determined.

Both teams will begin their season on September 3 where Heritage will travel to Harmony and Palm Bay will host the Space Coast Vipers.

The Brevard Public Schools leadership team has released some updated COVID-19 guidelines on extra-curricular activities this school year.

According to BPS, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create an environment where change happens rapidly.

“Our core focus is educational continuity and keeping our students and staff in our schools. Due to the increase in COVID cases in our community and our schools, we have updated our safety guidelines for extra-curricular activities and we wanted to share that information with you,” said a BPS spokesperson.

Field Trips
In-county, large group (grade-level, school-wide) field trips are suspended as least through September 30, 2021. In-county or out-of-county travel for athletic events is permitted with the proper approvals in place.
n Homecoming
A traditional Homecoming dance with DJ and dancing is suspended. Administrators will work with teacher leaders and/or sponsors to develop safe alternatives. Spirit weeks, homecoming court elections, etc. may still be conducted. The leadership team at the district level have made this difficult decision based on the increase in COVID cases in our community and our schools.

Indoor Sporting Events
Spectator capacity is limited to 50%.

Auditorium Use
Performances, Class Meetings, Etc. Auditorium usage is limited to no more than 50% with maximum social distancing protocols in place.
