Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Oregon Man Found Unresponsive in Surf at Jetty Park

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man pronounced dead yesterday after being found unresponsive in the surf Wednesday near Jetty Park as 69-year-old, Marvin Kumley of Oregon.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man pronounced dead yesterday after being found unresponsive in the surf Wednesday near Jetty Park as 69-year-old, Marvin Kumley of Oregon.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation thus far has determined that at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to the beach near Jetty Park in reference to a missing swimmer.

“Mr. Kumley, who was visiting with family from Oregon, was swimming in the surf when family members lost sight of him,” said a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

“He was located unresponsive in the water approximately 100 yards offshore and transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased.”

Agents are awaiting the results of an autopsy by the Brevard County Medical Examiner for a determination on Kumley’s exact cause of death.
