BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Each year on “Gold Star Mother’s Day” the President of the United States calls on all Americans to display the nation’s flag to publicly express our love, sorrow, and reverence towards “Gold Star Mothers” and their families, who’s son or daughter served and died while serving their nation in times of war or conflict.

The name “Gold Star Mothers” was derived from the custom of military families who put a service flag near their front window.

The flag featured a star for each family member serving in their country, with living members being denoted in blue and gold stars honoring family members who were killed while in duty.

As today commemorates the contributions, commitments and sacrifices made by parents who lost their child while defending our nation, I ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers and to take a moment today with your family, to remember all of those from our community who so honorably served our military and great nation.

On behalf of our entire agency we thank you for your sacrifice and please know how grateful we are as a nation and community for your child’s service.
