BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College men’s tennis doubles team lost in the finals of the NJCAA ITA Cup Regional Tournament in Tifton, Georgia on Sunday.

The duo of Lucas Gonzalez and Santino Morel Reider teamed up for the first time and reached the championship match at the ITA Cup over the weekend.

Gonzalez and Reider came into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and won their quarterfinal match 8-4 and then the semifinal 8-1 before losing the final 6-4, 6-3 to the No. 1 seed, Gaston Cantero and Cheng En Tsai.

Cantero also won the men’s singles title over the weekend, beating his doubles partner Tsai in three sets.

Gonzalez lost to Tsai in the semifinals of the singles tournament.

The pair will now wait to see if they earned an at-large bid to the ITA Cup where they would compete against NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA players.

The ITA Cup will be held Oct 14-17 in Rome, Georgia.
