BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s Alexis Sheely hits game-winning penalty kick to take down No. 25 ranked Colorado Mines 1-0.

Florida Tech was on the attacking half for much of the first 45 minutes and had a 13-5 shots advantage in the first half.

Maria Sanchez Recuero finished with two first-half saves.

In the 49th minute, Hanna Mansson drew a foul in the Mines’ box to earn a penalty kick for the Panthers. Alexis Sheely converted the PK to put Tech up 1-0.

It looked as though Mines had tied the game at 1-1 on a shot by Jordan Barnhart in the 75th minute but she was called offsides by the lines official.

Panthers finished with a 22-10 advantage in shots including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.

Marem Ndiongue led Tech with eight shots in the match while Mayara Queiroz Reis had three shots. Four other Panthers finished the day with two shots.

COACHES CORNER:

“We knew they were going to be a very organized and well-coached team, like so many other teams we’ve played so far,” said Ryan Moon.

“We just tried to play our game, focus on us and what we were going to do, how we were going to pick out some of their weaknesses and how we could exploit them.”

“We just had to stay focused on us more than them. It was going to be a hard battle and they were going to come in strong. We knew going into it that it was going to be a close, tight game, and I am very happy with how we approached it.”

UP NEXT: Florida Tech begins Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 22 as the Panthers travel to Daytona Beach for a matchup with Embry-Riddle. The kickoff is at 7 p.m.
