Florida Tech’s Fabio Amaral Nets Game-Winner in Overtime Thriller, Defeats No. 6 Wingate 2-1

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Panthers men soccer team defeat Wingate University 2-1 in overtime on Thursday.

The match started off with an early goal from Fabio Rodrigues of Wingate to put Tech behind 1-0. Panthers would tie it up at the 34′ mark of the first half with a penalty shot by Guillermo Segovia Marcos.

Florida Tech outshot Wingate in regulation 15-11, the game-winning goal in overtime came from Fabio Amaral after rebounding at close range.

Nick Brady collected seven saves on the match. Wingate led the game in fouls 18-9.

“It was a great opening game for us and a tough battle. It took some time to find our feet, but once we did we grew into the game and edged the chances we created.”

“We are all thankful to be able to compete again and it showed, the men gave everything they had tonight. Now we’re straight into recovery mode as we prepare for another battle on Saturday at Lenoir-Rhyne.”
