Juvenile Arrested for Possession of Stolen 9MM Handgun at Palm Bay Magnet High School

POLICE: weapon had been reported stolen from the City of Palm Bay

An alert Palm Bay Magnet High School administrator detained a 17-year-old juvenile student for a hall pass violation on Friday, which then lead to the discovery of a stolen 9m handgun by police.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – An alert Palm Bay Magnet High School administrator detained a 17-year-old juvenile student for a hall pass violation on Friday, which then lead to the discovery of a stolen 9m handgun by police.

According to Melbourne Police Commander Heath Sanders, while traveling to the dean’s office at approximately 2 p.m., the juvenile fled on foot and was seen discarding a paper bag near a campus dumpster.

School Resource Officer Rich Bartholomay then detained the juvenile and was able to recover the bag, and the handgun was discovered.

Commander Sanders said the weapon had been reported stolen from the City of Palm Bay.

“Information we have received does not indicate a continual threat to the school, or any other student or employee,” said Commander Sanders.

The juvenile was taken into custody on several felony charges and Melbourne police officers are investigating this incident.
