BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Dennis Berry, owner of Berry Signs in Rockledge, died at age 67 after a brief illness, on August 8, 2021.
Berry, a long-time resident of Brevard County, was well known in the community, not only for his successful business but for his giving back to the community. It was not uncommon to see a Berry Signs banner at a ball field or to see his company’s name on a sponsor list.
Berry was born in Covington, Kentucky, to Eldon and Ruthanne (Wolfe) Berry. In 1963, the Berry’s moved to Rockledge where he graduated from Rockledge High School in 1972. After graduation, he attended the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona Beach.
Early in life, Berry enjoyed working with his dad, painting billboards throughout Florida.
In 1975 Berry met his future wife of 46 years, Jo Anne Washer. Dennis and Jo dated less than a year before marrying but enjoyed a lifetime together.
Berry started his own company, Berry Signs, in 1977, and for more than 40 years, he served central Florida, and the name Berry Signs became synonymous with quality.
“It was obvious to anyone that knew him that Berry loved his work and his community,” said longtime friend and business associate Orville Susong. “He loved motorcycles, drag racing and old cars.”
Together, Dennis and Jo built their home in Rockledge, raised two boys, Joshua and Kyle, and enjoyed spending time with their seven grandchildren.
Dennis Berry adored his family and will be greatly missed by all. As his wife, Jo said, he was “One of a Kind.”
