‘SAM-I-AM?’ – Tropical Depression 18 in the Atlantic Forecast to Become Major Hurricane Sam by Monday

Tropical Storm Sam expected to form Thursday night

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center is keeping a close eye on Tropical Depression 18 forming in the Atlantic that is forecast to become a major hurricane by Monday night.

The latest 11 p.m. report by National Hurricane Center shows the tropical depression is carrying 35 max sustained winds and moving to the west at 15 mph.

Projections show Tropical Depression 18 developing into a Tropical Storm by Thursday evening before progressing into a hurricane Category 1 hurricane Saturday morning. From there, the hurricane would upgrade to a major hurricane (Category 3) by late Monday night shortly before impacting the Leeward Islands.

At this time, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

Should Tropical Depression 18 develop into a named storm it would be called ‘Sam’.
