BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Members of Bayside’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps academic team participated in a 32 team Brain Brawl Competition at Gaither High School in Tampa.

Bayside’s team placed third overall, earning them a spot in the State Championship Brawl in January. The team consisted of Capt. Shelby Dalbec, Rio Ames, Torrin Gordon, Riley Delaney and Bailey Seabourne.

Cadet Dalbec also earned a third-place medal in the individual competition, which is known as “Brawl Stars.”

The competition is held as a quiz bowl tournament. Questions are fielded from all four years of the NJROTC curriculum, as well as general high school courses and current events.

The top two or three teams at the State level can advance to the National Super Brawl, which will be held in San Diego, California in the spring.

Bayside last attended the National Super Brawl in 2019.

This was the first time NJROTC programs in the Florida area were able to compete face to face in over a year. The Bayside NJROTC cadets gained nationwide recognition last year by creating a system to host Brain Brawls live, virtually, with real-time buzzer capability helping keep NJROTC programs engaged in friendly competition.
