Brevard Prep Football Rankings: Melbourne Bulldogs Claims No. 5 Spot, Viera Hawks Bounced Out After Loss to Cocoa

The Space Coast Daily–Friday Night Locker Room team has released the Week 9 Brevard County High School Football Top 5 Power Rankings and the Melbourne Bulldogs make their first appearance on the list.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA  – The Space Coast Daily–Friday Night Locker Room team has released the Week 9 Brevard County High School Football Top 5 Power Rankings and the Melbourne Bulldogs make their first appearance on the list.

The Cocoa Tigers remain Number One after defeating the Viera Hawks last week extending their win streak to three in a row.

The rankings are comprised of a 15-member committee in Brevard County and averaged out by each committee member’s weekly Top 5 rankings list.

Melbourne slides into the rankings for the first time this season after advancing to 5-2 and winning their last 4 games in a row.

The Bulldogs soundly defeated Harmony 49-7 last week and are destined to win five straight with an easy matchup against Astronaut (1-5) this week.

1. COCOA TIGERS (5-1)

WATCH: Cocoa Tigers Virgil Marshall and Coach Ryan Schneider post-game interview with Space Coast Daily’s Juan Rodriguez after the Tigers defeat the Viera Hawks 39-14 last week.

The Tigers played an efficient game all four quarters, aside from their special teams which continues to hiccup every week.

Cocoa quarterback Davin Wydner had one of his better games of the season when it came to limiting mistakes. Wydner completed 67% of his passes with a rating of 131.

Tigers face one of their tougher matches let on the schedule, unbeaten Spruce Creek enters Dick Blake Stadium looking to become 8-0.

2. ROCKLEDGE RAIDERS (7-0)

The Rockledge Raiders defeated the undefeated Satellite Scorpions last week to hand them their first loss of the season.

Rockledge has flirted with the number one spot all season, it’ll come down to remaining unbeaten and defeating the Cocoa Tigers at the end of the season to see if they can take the crown.

The Raiders travels to Merritt Island this Friday in a tough district matchup

3. MERRITT ISLAND MUSTANGS (6-1)

The Mustangs have been putting on a defensive clinic recently only allowing 10 points in their last three games.

Merritt Island blew the Bayside Bears out last week 38-0 to remain at the number 3 spot.

Senior quarterback Brady Denanburg had an exceptional game, throwing for 3 touchdowns and a 109 QB rating.

Merritt Island will have their hands full this week, Mustangs are set to host the Rockledge Raiders in a must-win district match.

4. SATELLITE SCORPIONS (6-1)

The Satellite Scorps lost their first game of the season against the undefeated Rockledge Raiders last week 34-10.

Scorpions are still one of the better teams in the county with a lot of opportunity remaining this season.

The team will head to Palm Bay for a district matchup this Friday against the Pirates.

5. MELBOURNE BULLDOGS (5-2)

The Melbourne Bulldogs find themselves on the Top 5 power rankings for the first time this season.

Melbourne started off their season with back-to-back losses but haven’t looked back since having won an astonishing five straight.

The Bulldogs offensively have been on a tear lately led by young quarterback Hunter Turner. Melbourne has put up a combined 101 points in their last three games.

Melbourne will face off against Astronaut this week to make up for a from earlier in the season.
