BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Carnival Cruise Line christened Mardi Gras at Port Canaveral at a ‘Universe of Fun’ celebration, in the first ship naming ceremony held in the U.S. since the cruise industry’s restart this summer.

Attendees included Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal, the ship’s Godmother Miss Universe Dominican Republic Kimberly Jimenez, Miss Universe Andrea Meza, Miss USA Asya Branch, Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald and Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.

The new Mardi Gras was the first ship to resume operations from Port Canaveral this summer and is the first ship to feature an onboard roller coaster as well as the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas.

Mardi Gras currently operates seven-day sailings to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral’s new Cruise Terminal 3, built specifically for this vessel.
