City of Melbourne Hires Casey Gilbert, Ph.D., to Serve as Community Affairs Liaison

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The City of Melbourne has hired Casey Gilbert, Ph.D., to serve as its new Community Affairs Liaison.

The Community Affairs Liaison is a new position that was created as part of a larger plan to address homelessness issues in the City of Melbourne.

In this role, Gilbert will be responsible for coordinating efforts among multiple city departments, nonprofits, businesses, and residents in an effort to reduce homelessness and to address other community and neighborhood issues.

Gilbert brings significant experience in community development, strategic planning, and coordinating diverse groups of stakeholders and community partners through her time spent as a consultant and nonprofit executive director.

She is deeply engaged in the community through volunteer work as co-chair of the Melbourne Regional Chamber’s Nonprofit Council and as a member of the Leadership Brevard Class of 2022.

She has previously served as the executive director of Melbourne Main Street and Portland Downtown in Portland, Maine.

“Being selected as the City of Melbourne’s inaugural Community Affairs Liaison is an honor and a privilege,” Gilbert said.

“I look forward to collaborating with fellow city staff, local citizens, and community partners as we seek to find innovative solutions to important policy issues.”

Gilbert holds a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Southern Maine, an M.S. in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University, and a B.S. in community development and applied economics from the University of Vermont.

She will begin service to the City of Melbourne on October 11.
