BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Police and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a Cocoa man on Sunday following a several-hours standoff with law enforcement at a residence on the 300 block of N. 4th St.

Kelvin J. Thompson, 34, of Cocoa, was arrested Sunday, October 3, when Cocoa Beach Police responded to the home at about 6:00 A.M. after receiving a call that Thompson was allegedly holding a female against her will.

Thompson, who was already wanted by Cocoa Beach Police for violent felony charges, refused to exit the home and would not allow the female and another male to leave.

Multiple officers set up a perimeter around the home and closed off the street while detectives prepared a search warrant. Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to assist with a tactical entry.

Ultimately, Thompson exited the home on his own accord after negotiations, and was taken into custody without incident. The other occupants of the home were unharmed.

Thompson was charged with additional violent felonies and transported to the county jail, held on a No Bond status.

Detectives remained on-scene to further investigate other alleged criminality at this location.

“Thank you to our community for your patience and support during this lengthy ordeal. Great job to our team and our partners at BCSO,” said Cocoa Beach Police in a released statement.
