Eleven Florida Tech Panthers Softball Players Earn Easton/NFCA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete Honors

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Softball was recognized for its academic prowess on Tuesday afternoon when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2020-21 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes as well as the Easton/NFCA Team Academic rankings.

Coach Val Silvestrini’s Lady Panthers posted one of the top-20 team grade point averages among all NCAA Division II teams last year, earning 11 Florida Tech standouts All-America Scholar-Athlete nods.

The Crimson and Gray tied for No. 18 among all NCAA DII softball programs with a sizzling 3.66 GPA for the year. That was the highest grade-point average among all Sunshine State Conference squads.

The 2020-21 individual honorees include: Whitney Ellis, Emily Figueroa, Chloe French, Sam Guider, Jordan Lawlis, Mikayla Lewin, Kelly McLaughlin, Cheyenne Nelson, Allie Platon, Tori Szrom and Tina Velazquez Rolon.

In order to qualify as an All-America Scholar-Athlete players must maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA for the entire academic year.

Florida Tech completed the 2021 season with a 13-15 overall record going 10-12 in conference play.
