Florida Tech Panthers Swimmer Rocha Furtado Named to Sunshine State Conference All-Decade Team

The SSC All-Decade awards include eleven SSC Swimmer of the Year honorees and all six individual national champions from the league from 2010-11 to 2019-10.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Sunshine State Conference announced its Men’s Swimming All-Decade honors for 2010-19 with Victor Rocha Furtado representing Florida Tech on the 16-member team.

All-Decade voting took place among the league’s administrators and swimming coaches.

The SSC All-Decade awards include eleven SSC Swimmer of the Year honorees and all six individual national champions from the league from 2010-11 to 2019-10.

Additionally, four men earned three or more All-SSC First Team nods: Rocha Furtado along with Jeb Halfacre, Luis Rojas, and Matthew Holmes from Florida Southern.

Rocha Furtado stands as the most accomplished swimmer in program history following a stellar four-year career between 2015 and 2019. He finished as a runner-up in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships in 2018 and 2019.

He was named an individual First Team All-American in six events between 2017-2019, earning the honor in the 100-yard freestyle in each of those years, the 50-yard freestyle in 2018 and 2019, and the 100-yard butterfly in 2019.

He grabbed Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 50-yard freestyle in 2017 and the 100-yard butterfly in 2018.

He was a part of eight relay teams that won All-America honors, in addition to the 2017 national champion 200-yard freestyle relay team, the first national championship in program history.

Rocha Furtado also won the SSC title in the 50-yard freestyle in 2018 and the 100-yard freestyle in 2017 and 2018.

He also placed second in the 50 freestyle in 2017 as well as second in the 100 butterflies in 2017 before taking third in the event the following year. He was named First Team All-SSC in three consecutive years during the 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 seasons.

Rocha Furtado still holds the SSC record for the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.66 and the SSC Meet record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.72.

He also posted the fastest time in the SSC in the 100-yard freestyle in 2017-18 (43.18) and 2018-19 (43.07), in addition to the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle in 2018-19 (19.71).

He also was a member of the SSC champion 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay in 2017 and 2018.
