Poker is a multi-round card game that two or more players play. It’s available to play both online and off. While some states outright forbid betting and gambling, others allow just a limited amount of betting and gaming, and still, others have adopted the Public Gambling Act of 1867, a British Raj-era statute.
While games whose conclusion is determined by chance are regarded as gambling and usually are outlawed, games involving skill (such as Poker) are frequently permitted since they do not fit within the scope of gambling.
Which component between chance and skill dominates/predominates in a game determines whether it is gambling or not. 3. However, poker enthusiasts’ efforts, such as those of the Indian Poker Association (IPA), have resulted in two favorable judgments from the Karnataka High Court and the Calcutta High Court, respectively. However, even these two decisions appear to be limited in scope and do not address the topic in depth.
Legalizing gambling has always been a contentious topic because of the moral implications and potentially negative consequences for the poor. These are factors that have nothing to do with the game of Poker.
Both the Central Government and the individual State Governments have a solid argument to make in defining and legalizing the position of Poker.
