BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – On Sunday, October 24, 2021, Myra Jean Bowling, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 71 after a yearlong valiant battle with stage 4 lung cancer. She now rests peacefully with Jesus in His heavenly home.

Growing up in Proctorville, OH, she met and dated Gordon Michael “Mike” Bowling at Fairland High School and she graduated in 1968. She then attended Marshall University, in Huntington, WV, and while she was going to school, she married Mike in 1971.

She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education specializing in Special Education in 1972 and started her career in 1974 teaching at Hampton City Schools, in Hampton, VA where she taught for 9 years until moving to Brevard County in 1983 for Mike’s safety engineering job at Kennedy Space Center.

Myra taught at many elementary schools in Port St. John, Cocoa, and Titusville for an additional 24 years until she retired in 2007 where she taught elementary school for a total of 33 years.

Myra and Mike then moved to Harvest, AL in 2008 to join her daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren that moved there the prior year. She enjoyed the change of seasons, met new friends, and spent time with extended family.

In 2017, she and Mike moved back to Brevard County and joined her daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandchildren, once again up until she passed away.

Myra had a full and rewarding life where she loved Jesus, her 2 precious grandchildren and her 3 pugs, the fall season, reading Christian books, and spending time with and entertaining friends in her home.

She was also a skilled crafter: she wood-burned, quilted, and cross-stitched; she co-owned a Candy Bouquet franchise with her daughter where she made and sold “flower” arrangements out of candy; and in her later years, she enjoyed being a demonstrator for Stampin’ Up! where she taught classes how to make various themed card designs.

Besides giving away the exquisite, detailed cards she made for family and friends, she enjoyed making them along with beautiful flower arrangements for the ladies’ tea at church, and selling them as well.

Myra is survived by her husband, Gordon Michael “Mike” Bowling of almost 51 years, her 3 pugs, Lexi, Oscar, and Gus; daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Robby Robinson, grandchildren Grant and Keri of Titusville, FL.

She also leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Doug Booton of Bristol, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Kay Hayes of Proctorville, OH; as well as brother and sister-in-law, David and Cindy Hayes of Proctorville, OH; along with her close friends, Sally Walker of Nashville, TN and Renee Murks of Toney, AL as well as many other dear friends and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Oct. 29 at Florida Memorial Gardens and Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL. Visitation will be at 3 p.m., followed by the celebration at 4 p.m.
