Mardi Gras was first ship to resume operations from Port Canaveral this summer

Port Canaveral to host the official naming ceremony of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Mardi Gras ship on October 23. 

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Port Canaveral to host the official naming ceremony of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Mardi Gras ship on October 23. 

The inaugural ceremony begins at 12 p.m. and will be held in the Mardi Gras Theater, Deck 7 Forward.

Check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the embarkation is set for 10:30 a.m.

The new Mardi Gras was the first ship to resume operations from Port Canaveral this summer and is the first ship to feature an onboard roller coaster as well as the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas.

Mardi Gras currently operates seven-day sailings to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral’s new Cruise Terminal 3, built specifically for this vessel.

Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal will be at Port Canaveral to participate in the official naming ceremony of Carnival Cruise Line’s new Mardi Gras ship on October 23. (Carnival image)

The ceremony will consist of multiple guests including:

■ Carnival’s Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’Neal

■ Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald

■ Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy will be joined by Miss Universe, Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez, who will serve as godmother for the ship, along with Miss Universe, Andrea Meza, Miss USA, Asya Branch, and additional Miss Universe titleholders.
