BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA What moves you? Space Coast Area Transit and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization are set to celebrate the fifth annual Mobility Week, October 29 – November 6.

Mobility Week is a statewide initiative launched by the Florida Department of Transportation, designed to encourage events that promote safe transportation options. Space Coast Area Transit offers many ways to celebrate Mobility Week.

Highlights include offering Space Coast residents and visitors an opportunity to ride the bus or trolley for free and a public celebration of the new beach trolley service on Route 26 at Canova Beach Park on October 30.

“We encourage everyone to participate in Mobility Week and learn more about safe multimodal transportation choices,” said Terry Jordan, Director of Space Coast Area Transit.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

■ Friday, October 29, 8:00 – 10:00 a.m., Stop for Pedestrians! Roadside Safety Pop-Up Event

The Space Coast TPO and the Town of Melbourne Beach Police Department will take it to the streets to raise awareness about pedestrian safety at select crosswalks and intersections around town. Ocean Avenue and Orange Avenue, Melbourne Beach, FL.

■ Friday, October 29 – November 30, Love to Ride Florida Challenge

Individuals and businesses across the state are registering for the Love to Ride Florida challenge. If you haven’t been on a bike in years or you ride regularly, this challenge is for you. Pedal on from October 29 and through the month of November to earn points and prizes. Register now at lovetoride.net/florida.

Space Coast area residents and visitors are invited to see the new beach trolley at Canova Beach Park and enjoy free trolley tours and rides. Free hot dogs and trolley t-shirts are available while supplies last. In addition, attendees can “Talk Trolley” with Brevard County Commissioner Kristine Zonka and Transit Director Terry Jordan. The event is free; however, pre-registration at 321Transit.com/26Trolley is required. The event takes place at Canova Beach Park, 3299 N. Highway AIA, Melbourne, FL. Sponsors include the Florida Department of Transportation, reThink Your Commute, the Space Coast TPO, Brevard County Parks & Recreation, and Space Coast Area Transit.

■ Monday, November 1, Trolley Service Starts on Route 26 South Beach

Starting November 1, a new beach trolley will be serving Space Coast Area Transit’s Route 26. Major stops include the S.13th Street Transfer Point, Patrick Space Force Base, South Beaches, and Canova Beach Park. Service hours are 7:30 a.m. – 7:25 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. – 6:25 p.m. Saturday. Maps and schedules are available at 321Transit.com. The cost to ride the trolley is $1.50.  Seniors, veterans, students, and youth under 18, ride at half-fare; children under five and transfers are free. Download the 321Transit app to follow the trolley live on its route. Additionally, contactless mobile ticketing, powered by Token Transit, allows riders to purchase a 1-Ride, 10-Ride, or 30-Day Bus/Trolley Pass directly and instantly to a smartphone. All transit buses and trolleys are equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks. Surfboards are allowed inside the bus/trolley, based on space availability.

Space Coast residents and visitors can see the new Space Coast Area Transit beach trolley in the Satellite Beach Founder’s Day Parade at 11:00 a.m. Visit the Marketplace and Founder’s Day Event at the David R. Schecter Community Center to tour the trolley and ring the bell from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 1089 S. Patrick Drive, Satellite Beach, FL.
