BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra will present its annual fall concert with participation from all three of its musical groups on Sunday, November 7.

The concert will be held at Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School, 1500 Minutemen Causeway, in Cocoa Beach.

It is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Made in the USA will feature works by American composers or about the nation and its people. The Academy Orchestra’s beginning string players, as well as the intermediate players of the Symphony Orchestra, will perform several numbers each.

The advanced Philharmonic Orchestra students will then take to the stage under the direction of Maestro Mark Nelson, performing works by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and John Philip Sousa, along with Antonin Dvorak’s moving finale from his New World Symphony no. 9. The 90-minute concert is free of charge.

An outreach of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra for youth aged eight to 20 years rehearses weekly in preparation for performances of classical symphonic masterworks.

Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra Executive Director, Jensee Lee is looking forward to the first concert of the new season and the opportunity to showcase the talents of the three groups of players.

“Our talented young musicians have been rehearsing for weeks in preparation for this concert,” said Ms. Lee.

“Each group is presenting inspiring works by American composers or about our nation. We invite everyone to come to support the efforts of these dedicated young people and enjoy their beautiful concert.”

The theme for the Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra 2021-22 season is Enlightenment, a reference to the optimism, vision, joy, and light provided by music.

The SCSYO members are divided into three performing groups, to accommodate various ages and experience levels.

Weekly rehearsals for the 2021-22 season are held at Temple Israel of Brevard in Viera, following current COVID-19 protocols by Brevard Public Schools, the International Coalition of Arts Organizations Aerosol Study, and the American String Teachers Association Return to Learning Guidelines.

The orchestras are led by a talented artistic staff of professional musicians and music educators.

The spring session of 2022 will include a concerto competition and the resulting concert of the winners. The season-ending concert will be alongside the adult members of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Aaron T. Collins.
