ORLANDO, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team placed second in the McDonough Cup at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando on Tuesday.

The Titans shot the best round of the day, a 280 in the final round to catapult into second place overall. Nova Southeastern won the event, shooting a 283 in the final round to finish the tournament 20-under.

Mount Olive finished in third place, Palm Beach Atlantic wad fourth and Indianapolis placed fifth.

Sophomore John Houchin finished third overall at 6-under par for the tournament after shooting a 69 in the final round. Teammate Robert Grenninger placed 12th overall at 2-under after a final round 70.

Drew Lanier shot a 69 as well in the final round and finished tied for 23rd. Matt Gauntlett shot a 72 Tuesday to finish tied for 34th and Ryan McMillan finished tied for 42nd overall.

“Awesome job by the team today. Good, solid play by John, Drew, Robert, and Matt,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “We head into the offseason on a good finish with our eyes on the spring season.”

The second-place finish was one of the best finishes for the Titans at the McDonough Cup since they won the event.
