Eastern Florida Women’s Soccer Team Wins, Advances to National Championship Game Today

Titans defeated No. 2 seed Seminole State College (OK) 3-0 in the national tournament semifinals

The Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Game for the third time in school history on Friday evening. The Titans, who are the No 3 seed in the tournament, defeated No. 2 seed Seminole State College (OK) 3-0 in the national tournament semifinals Friday at Daytona State College.

The championship game will kick off at 3 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the gate at Daytona State College for $20. The game will be shown live online for $10 at njcaa.org/network/live

The Titans, who are the No 3 seed in the tournament, defeated No. 2 seed Seminole State College (OK) 3-0 in the national tournament semifinals Friday at Daytona State College.

Eastern Florida State College will play No. 1 seed Tyler Junior College in the championship game Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

On Friday the Titans got on the board in the first half as freshman Laura Cetina split a couple of defenders and put a shot past the goalkeeper with six minutes and 54 seconds remaining in the first half. It was Cetina’s second goal of the tournament and her seventh goal of the season.

The team opened the second half looking for a second goal and eight minutes into the second half Alexia Spencer was fouled in the box sending Paula Garrido to the line. Garrido put it in the back of the net to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

Courtney Jade Butlion scored on a pass from Cetina that made it 3-0 with 11 minutes remaining. It was Butlion’s fifth goal of the season and first of the tournament.

Eastern Florida State College is in the championship game for the first time since 2015 and will face Tyler Junior College for the fifth time in the national tournament.
