Eastern Florida’s Kurumi Arakawa Named Region 8 Player of Year, Four Titans Make All-Region First Team

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Five members of the Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team have been named to the First Team All-Region 8 team.

Sophomore Kurumi Arakawa was named the Region 8 Player of the Year and head coach Scott Carswell was named the Region 8 Coach of the Year.

Arakawa has been one of the key players in the middle of the field for Eastern Florida State College, playing both holding and attacking midfield for the No. 2 ranked Titans who head to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

The sophomore from Tochigi, Japan has two goals this season.

Joining Arakawa on the first team are Alexia Spencer, Courtney Butlion, Marthe Taugbol, and Lydia Carroll.

Spencer is leading the Titans with five assists this season while Butlion has scored four times. Taugbol and Carroll are part of a defense that did not allow a goal in seven of the 11 games.

Forward Paula Garrido, defender Kirsty Woodacre, and goalkeeper Marcella Thedinga were all named honorable mention.

Eastern Florida State College will open the national tournament Monday at 2:30 pm. against Rose State College at Daytona State College.
