BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After an impressive week controlling the space behind the Panthers’ backline, freshman goalkeeper Paige Lewkutz has been named the Sunshine State Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Making her first two collegiate starts and appearances last week, Lewkutz registered 11 saves and a 0.917 save percentage while allowing just one goal in 180 minutes to help lead Florida Tech to a 2-0 record with victories over No. 16 Palm Beach Atlantic and Tampa.
Making her first career start on Wednesday against the No. 16 Sailfish, the top team in the league standings at the time, Lewkutz recorded five saves on eight shots as the Panthers went on to earn a 2-0 shutout win at Rick Stottler Field.
On Saturday, the West Palm Beach native again made the start in goal for Florida Tech and finished with six saves while allowing one goal on 15 shots as the Panthers defeated Tampa 2-1 on the road at Pepin Stadium.
The two victories helped the Crimson & Gray climb up to sixth in the SSC standings with a chance to secure a spot in next week’s league tournament with one game to go.
The Panthers conclude their regular-season slate on Tuesday hosting Lynn for Senior Night at Rick Stottler Field. The kickoff is at 7 p.m.
