BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Panther fall to Embry Riddle in Sunshine State Conference Championship on Sunday.

ERAU jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage on a goal by Marie Myhrvold Seim just 4:57 into the game.

Florida Tech had a chance to tie the game up in the 10th minute as a shot by Marem Ndiongue rang off the crossbar and bounced to Mariana Mazzocca right in front of the Eagles’ net.

However, Mazzocca’s shot was stopped by ERAU goalkeeper Oona Jokinen to keep her team ahead by one.

Panthers would control the ball on the offensive half for a majority of the remaining time in the first half and went into halftime with an edge in shots (6-4) and corner kicks (2-1)

ERAU controlled the pace of play in the second half and the Eagle’s defense tightened up and didn’t allow the Panthers could get a good shot on goal.

Time would eventually run out on the Panthers as they were handed just their third loss of the season.

ERAU ended the contest with more shots 11-9, while both teams had four shots on goal. Tech earned more corner kicks 4-2. Mayara Queiroz Reis led Tech with five shots in the game, placing two on goal. Ndiongue had two shots with one on goal and Mazzocca had a shot on goal.

Maria Sanchez Recuero finished with three saves while Jokinen had four stops in the game for the Eagles. Florida Tech moves to 1-2 in Sunshine State Conference title game appearances.

The loss ends the Panthers’ unbeaten streak at 10 games. It was Tech’s first defeat since dropping a 1-0 decision to Nova Southeastern on Oct. 2. Panthers were 7-0-3 over that 10-game span.

Following the conclusion of the championship game, JoJo Michaels, Marem Ndiongue, Maria Sanchez Recuero and Mayara Queiroz Reis were named to the SSC All-Tournament Team for their exceptional play over the three rounds.

UP NEXT: Panthers will now await their NCAA Tournament fate and see where they land during Monday’s NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Selection Show. The show begins at 6 p.m. and can be viewed at NCAA.com.
