BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Call it what you want; the BBQ Bowl, the biggest rivalry on the Space Coast (of course that’s up for debate), or simply – Cocoa vs Rockledge. Whatever it’s called; this year, it is the biggest football game on the Space Coast, without question.

The Cocoa Tigers and the Rockledge Raiders both come into the game with only a single loss on their record.

Both teams are loaded with talent; on both sides of the ball. And, both teams can score at will.

Davin Wydner of the Tigers has thrown for 2,374 yards, 13 TD’s, and has thrown 7 interceptions. He has three different receivers with at least 20 catches. Jamariyae Robinson looks to be Wydner’s favorite target.

The senior, 3-star wide receiver, has 45 receptions, 790 yards, and has scored four touchdowns. Donte Cook has caught 24 passes for 2994 yards and one touchdown.

On the ground, the Tigers have been dominant. Arguably the best running back in the state of Florida O.J. Ross continues to put up impressive numbers, leading the team with 1,144 yards, and 24 rushing TD’s. Ross has also caught 12 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Tigers have been tasked with defending some of the most challenging programs up and down the state. The team has totaled 640 tackles and 25 sacks through 8 games.

That being said, 4-star Toledo commit Virgil Marshall and 4-star Cedrick Hawks lead the secondary and are two players to keep an eye out for in this matchup.

Offensively, the Raiders have dealt with the injury bug when it comes to the quarterback position. They’ve had four different players take snaps at QB this season.

When it comes to rushing the ball, the Raiders have a three-headed monster in Bridgewater, Watkins Jr, and Maynard.

As a team, the Raiders have a total of 2,269 yards of offense on the season.

Coast Carolina commit Rian Black had 511 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns. Not exactly the numbers we were expecting to see but the all-around talent has been asked to do a lot more than catch the ball.

Black has played running back, quarterback, and wide receiver this season, and has been able to succeed at each position.

Defensively the Raiders stand out. The emergence of sophomore linebacker Derrick McCormick has been a pleasant surprise, racking up 72 tackles and 3 interceptions.

Rockledge has 653 total tackles and 24 sacks on the season heading into their final regular-season game.

The 42nd BBQ Bowl has all the makings of a classic! It is a game a lot of people have been pointing to since the beginning of the season.

Both teams would like to carry a BBQ Bowl win with them as the playoffs begin. Which one will it be? If you can’t make it to the game, tune in to Space Coast Daily for the Friday Night Locker Room’s broadcast of the “Game of the Year” to find out!
