BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after an armed robbery ended in a homicide late Thursday night near Kensington Drive and Donna Avenue.
According to Cocoa Police Department’s Yvonne Martinez, just before 11 p.m, the victim, a local cab driver, was called to the area to pick up a fare and was shot and killed. The suspect fled the scene.
“A similar armed robbery and carjacking occurred in the same area on Tuesday where a delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint and the suspect fled in the delivery driver’s vehicle,” said Martinez.
The victim in that case was not injured, police say.
Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and attempting to identify a suspect.
“It is not known if the cases are related. Food delivery drivers and other services providing delivery or transportation should maintain a heightened awareness and report any suspicious activity to local police,” Martinez continued.
