Hawks finished the 2021 season 5-5

Derek Smith steps down as the Head Coach of the Viera Hawks football program.

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Viera Hawks head coach Derek Smith stepped down after accepting the head coaching job at Macintosh High School in Georgia.

Macintosh High School is located in Peachtree City in the Metro Atlanta area, where Smith will coach the Chiefs that finished with a 2-8 record during the 2021 season.

Smith’s days with the Hawks go back to 2013 where he began as the defensive coordinator, and he was named as the Hawks’ head coach after Kevin Mays left Viera in 2018.

During his tenure, Viera went 28-17 and won two district championships. The Hawks finished the 2021 season with a 5-5 record.

Smith has been coaching for more than 25 years including on the college, high school and youth levels. He has been recognized during his career as Bayside High School Teacher of the Year, Cape Coast Conference Coach of the Year and FACA District Coach of the Year.
