According to Florida Tech officials, the student killed was identified as 18-year-old FIT student Alhaji M. Sow, a Florida Tech sophomore studying aeronautical science from Riverdale, GA.

“This is an isolated incident and there is no indication there are threats at the university,” said FIT officials.

Melbourne Police Commander Health Sanders said the incident began when officers responded to the Florida Institute of Technology campus in response to a man reported to be armed with a knife and assaulting students.

“FIT security also responded and learned the male went into a campus building,” said Commander Sanders.
