ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Orlando City SC has signed Designated Player Mauricio Pereyra to a new contract, it was announced today, returning to the side on a one-year deal.

Pereyra, 31, appeared in 30 matches for the Lions this past season, tying the single-season Club-record for assists with 11 across all competitions, joining former City captain Luis Nani who did the same in 2019.

The Uruguayan midfielder added one finish to his contributions on the year, netting the eventual game-winner for the side on May 16 in a 1-0 win at D.C. United.

“Mauricio has proven to be a true leader both on and off the field, and we are very excited to have him return for another season here in Orlando,” Orlando City SC EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi said.

“In addition to his skill on the field, we know Mauricio will bring our roster together, which will feature some new faces next season. The locker room intangibles are just as important to our Club, so it was very a high priority for us to keep someone like him for both his technical quality and personal character.”

In nearly four seasons as a Lion, Pereyra has appeared in 59 matches across all competitions with 53 starts, sitting at third in Club history in assists at 23 behind former Lions Luis Nani (26) and Chris Mueller (24), while finding the back of the net four times to add.
