BREVARD COUNTY • KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLORIDA – SpaceX has moved up a Falcon 9 rocket launch for Thursday, December 9 from Kennedy Space Center.

The one-hour and a half hour launch window opens at 1 a.m. ET.

The mission will launch the NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE).

According to SpaceFlight Now, IXPE exploits the polarization state of light from astrophysical sources to provide insight into our understanding of X-ray production in objects such as neutron stars and pulsar wind nebulae, as well as stellar and supermassive black holes.

Following first-stage separation, SpaceX will attempt to recover the booster engine on a drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.
