BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Police Department had the honor of taking 34 children on a Christmas shopping spree called ‘Shop with a Cop’. Each child was paired with a police officer.

Each child could also ride shotgun in a lights and sirens escort to Walmart where they had $100 to spend on whatever the child chooses. In many cases, the children bought gifts for their family before even thinking of themselves.

Today, some of the stories are bittersweet, when you see the children buying food for the family instead of gifts. When a good Samaritan saw this, she stepped in to pay for the food so the children could buy gifts with the $100. One teen shared how he saved money for two years to buy just one gift.

“The Cocoa Police Department is so grateful for our community partners like Walmart, which donated money, products, and snacks for the children,” said a police spokesperson.

“They also thank the Community First Charity for facilitating all of their outreach programs and for all the volunteers who helped put a smile on our faces and the faces of so many children.”
