BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol provided more details on pedestrian crash that killed an 80-year-old Melbourne man on Wednesday after trying to cross State Road A1A near Casseekee Trail in Melbourne Beach.

Authorities say the man was struck Wednesday around 6:45 p.m. and was later pronounced dead at Holmes Regional.

The man was struck when he tried to cross A1A in a non-designated crosswalk area.

The car had the right of way, said Lt. Kim Montes from the Florida Highway Patrol.

“Florida law requires pedestrians crossing outside of a crosswalk or intersection to yield to traffic on the main portion of the roadway,” Montes said.
