BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Tiger 4-star defensive back Cedrick Hawkins committed to Ohio State University on New Years Day.

The class of 2023 athlete had more than 15 offers with other big-name programs in the mix such as Florida State, the University of Florida, Georgia Tech and Penn State, to name a few.

Hawkins is the No. 197 prospect in the On3 Consensus.

“I went up to Ohio State in the summer and loved everything,” Hawkins told On3. “Over the last two to three weeks, I have been thinking about this.

“I gave coach (Tony) Alford a call a couple of days ago and told him about my decision. Ohio State is where I want to go.”

On3.com said schools will not stop recruiting Hawkins, the No. 38 prospect in Florida, but Hawkings said he feels good about this decision.

Hawkins, a 5-foot, 11-inch, 170-pound safety, is related to former Cocoa Tiger and Louisville Cardinal, and current Los Angeles Rams running back Javian Hawkins.

The Cocoa Tigers finished the 2021 season 11-2 and came up just short of another state championship title.
