Longtime Brevard Resident and Founder of Christ Lutheran Twila D. Horn, 93, Passed Away Dec. 25

Twila was loving wife of the late Frank W. Horn, Jr., shared 41 years of marriage before his passing

Twila D. Horn, 93, formerly of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Utz Terrace. She was the loving wife of the late Lt. Col. (Ret.) Frank W. Horn, Jr. USAF. Together they shared 41 years of marriage before his passing in 1989.

Twila was an active Lutheran all of her life and was instrumental in starting several mission congregations for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, for over 60 years, she taught all ages of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Twila D. Horn, 93, formerly of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Utz Terrace. She was the loving wife of the late Lt. Col. (Ret.) Frank W. Horn, Jr. USAF. Together they shared 41 years of marriage before his passing in 1989.

Born February 27, 1928, in Red Lake Falls, MN, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Mabel (Strom) Nygaard.

Twila was an active Lutheran all of her life and was instrumental in starting several mission congregations for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She helped found Christ Lutheran Church in Cape Canaveral, where she was a member for 52 years.

For over 60 years, she taught all ages of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was active and held leadership positions in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). In her later years, she did prison ministry, which involved doing bible studies with women inmates. She was a serious bridge player throughout her adult life.

Twila is survived by four children: Frank W. Horn, III and his wife Constance of Hanover, Carey T. Horn and his wife Ginger Davis-Horn of Cocoa Beach, FL, Hattie Evans and her husband Charles of Glenville, and David M. Horn and his wife Beth of Port Washington, NY; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Twila was preceded in death by her 5 siblings: Myrtle Judith Cherrington, Kermit Nygaard, Kathleen Welshons, Rev. Spencer M Nygaard, and Carl Nygaard.

Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Twila will be held at New Hope Faith Community on Friday, January 7th at 10 a.m with her pastor Jim Herbert officiating.

There will be family visitation following the service. In the spring (date to be announced) there will be a service with her pastor Greg LeSieur officiating, at Christ Lutheran Church, Cape Canaveral, with interment next to her husband at Brevard Memorial Park in Cocoa, Florida.
