Melbourne City Council Approves ‘Street to Home’ $250,000 Grant Earmarked for Homeless Households

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne City Council approved designating $250,000 in Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus funding to the Melbourne Street to Home Project, a new program that will help approximately 93 City of Melbourne households who are unsheltered or are imminently at risk of becoming homeless.
In addition to the $250,000 in CDBG-CV3 funding, the Brevard Homeless Coalition has allocated an additional $400,000 in Emergency Services Grant Coronavirus funding, which will allow the program to assist up to 200 households total.
The Brevard Homeless Coalition will administer the project, and Steadytown will provide technical support.
Community partners Daily Bread, South Brevard Sharing Center, and Family Promise of Brevard will provide specialized and tiered intake services, crisis needs assessments, counseling, and referrals to community resources, non-congregate shelter to prevent the spread of COVID-19, bridge housing, and permanent housing.
Daily Bread will focus on helping those who have been chronically homeless, the South Brevard Sharing Center will work to aid households experiencing more transitional patterns of homelessness, and Family Promise of Brevard will assist families with children who are imminently at risk of homelessness.
The Melbourne Street to Home Project will build on the success of 2020’s Street to Home Bridge Housing program, which provided temporary housing and case management services for 46 people, 37 of whom secured permanent housing.
