Melbourne Police Traffic Homicide Investigation Underway After Fatal Vehicle Crash on N. Wickham Road

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police officers were on the scene of a fatal vehicle crash on North Wickham Road and Orange Manor Drive on Monday afternoon.
According to Melbourne police spokesman Mark Renkens, the crash took place at approximately 2 p.m.
“Upon arrival, Melbourne police officers discovered one of the vehicle drivers sustained life-threatening injuries that may have occurred as a result of the crash and later succumbed to those injuries at Melbourne Regional Medical Center,” said Renkens.
Police identified one of the drivers as 39-year-old Ricky Eugene Brooks of Cocoa. The victim of the fatal crash has not been identified pending notification of next-of-kin.
“Initial investigation reveals the operator of one of the vehicles was traveling south on North Wickham Road and entered the bi-directional lane (suicide lane) and struck a stationary vehicle occupying the bi-directional lane.
Renkens said it appears alcohol/drugs are not a factor in the crash and the MPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash as a Traffic Homicide Investigation.
