Sheriff Wayne Ivey represented sheriffs from across Florida who came together in Jacksonville on Monday to voice their support for Gov. Ron DeSantis and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was front and center at the Florida Sheriffs Association Winter conference on Monday as he delivered an endorsement for Gov. Ron DeSantis on behalf of 59 of the state’s 67 sheriffs in what Ivey called the “most freedom-loving state in the United States of America.”

Sheriff Ivey said DeSantis was providing real American leadership.

“That’s a real law and order governor, that’s what they look like!” said Sheriff Ivey.

“While the rest of the country faces crime rates are rising at alarming levels, today more than ever before, people are moving their families, their homes and their businesses to Florida. They’re moving to our great state because they know that with Gov. DeSantis at the helm, they will be safe.”

DeSantis has been a strong proponent of law enforcement, making funding a priority.

“We actually passed a law in Florida that says we’re not going to let local governments defund law enforcement,” DeSantis said.

“In Florida, we’ve got your back. And we’ll continue to have your back,” DeSantis said, saying that support has only just begun, highlighting his $5,000 signing bonuses for new police officers.

Sheriff Ivey went on to say:

I am honored to stand beside the 46th Governor of the great state of Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis!!
Ladies and Gentlemen this is what a law and order Governor looks like, and as each of the Sheriff’s standing here with us today will tell you…this is what a real Governor looks like, a Governor who cares more about the safety of his citizens, his cops, and his country’s constitution than he does about hurting the feelings of a criminal or someone who wants to foolishly go soft on crime.

And yes…this right here…is what a Governor looks like that is not afraid to step up on the ledge and lead his state to be the most freedom-loving state in the United States of America.

The Sheriffs standing here with us today and a few who could not attend today’s press conference because of scheduling conflicts recognize that Governor DeSantis’s support of law enforcement is why Florida’s crime rate is going down, while the rest of the country faces crime rates that are rising at alarming levels.

Today, more than ever before, people are moving their families, their homes, and their businesses to Florida. They are moving to our great state because they know that with Governor DeSantis at the helm, they will be safe, they can have a great education in our schools, they have amazing opportunities to grow their businesses, they can enjoy our beautiful beaches, and the only thing that is forced upon them…is freedom!!

For those of us standing here, who proudly wear the badge, we know that our Governor stands with us in the fight against illegal immigration, our Governor stands with us to combat the opioid epidemic that is taking its toll on every community in America, and our Governor is working hard every day to help us recruit and retain the finest law enforcement officers in the country!!

That’s real American Leadership and folks…that’s what a real law and order Governor looks like and that’s why all of us are standing strong and proud with Governor DeSantis as he stands strong and proud to protect all of us here in the state of Florida.

Florida Sheriffs Association: We know our governor has our backs

“Law enforcement and first responders have sadly become the targets of ridicule and contempt from elected officials across the country, but Florida remains a sanctuary of support for men and women in blue,” said a statement issued by the Florida Sheriffs Association.

“We know our governor has our backs. Other cities and states are defunding police departments while Florida, under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, is supplying law enforcement officers with the resources and backing we need to keep Floridians safe.”

Sheriff Ivey also supported Sen. Marco Rubio, who is running for reelection against former Orlando police chief and current U.S. Rep. Val Demings.

“When you inject the spirit of lawlessness in a culture in a society, you embolden the lawless, and in the end, the men and women standing behind me and the men or women that work for them are the ones that have to respond to it and have a very difficult job,” said Rubio.

“And so I think it’s especially sickening when people who should know better, like Chuck Schumer’s handpicked candidate for U.S. Senate, Val Demings, she should know better. It’s even worse when someone who knows better and should know better decides to align themselves with this effort to call into question the work that law enforcement is doing.”
