BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College will host a reunion ceremony Friday to honor the Brevard Community College 1999-2000 state championship men’s basketball team and you can watch the celebration live on Space Coast Daily TV.

The ceremony will be held in the auditorium, Building 4.

Below is the ceremony agenda:

■ VIP Reception with heads of college, foundational donors, faculty, coaches & members of the men’s basketball teams 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

■ Reunion/Ring Ceremony Welcome – Playing of the National Anthem 6:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (All guests allowed into the Auditorium)

■ Dean Michael A. Cadore sr., MA (Speaker) 6:35 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.

■ Cocoa Mayor Michael “Mike” Blake (Tentatively Scheduled) 6:50 p.m. – 7:10 p.m. (Present Proclamation Recognizing Team’s Achievements)

■ Presentation Individual Championship Rings to Players 7:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

■ Closing Remarks 7:50 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

1999 – 2000 Brevard Community College Men’s Basketball Team Accomplishments

■ School Record 29 wins in single-season; overall 29-7 record

■ Southern Conference Record 12-0 (first undefeated season in conference history)

■ Won Southern Conference Regular Season Title

■ Won NJCAA Region VIII State Tournament Championship

■ Advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament (2nd time in school history)

■ The team ended the season with a top ten (ranked 9th) national ranking

Former Brevard Community College men’s basketball coach Don Smith took over the program in 1985 and immediately turned it around, winning 21 games in his first season. Smith was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

Team: 1999 – 2000 Brevard Community College Men’s Basketball Team

Former Brevard Community College men’s basketball coach, Don Smith, took over the program in 1985 and immediately turned it around, winning 21 games in his first season.

Smith would win 28 games in his second season at the helm, including a state championship and was named the state coach of the year.

It would be the first of two state championships Smith won with Brevard Community College.

Joe Gordon

■  First-team NJCAA All-America (27.5 ppg. 5.3 RPG. 2.4 APG.) (Scoring average was tops in the nation among Division I junior colleges and ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring among all junior colleges)

■ Named the Southern Conference & Florida Junior College Player of the Year in 1999-00

■  Set school single-season scoring records for scoring average and three-point field goal percentage

■  Scored over 50 points on two occasions

■  Signed with The University of Miami

Norm Cain

■  Named first-team All-Southern Conference

■  Named to the NJCAA Region VIII All-Tournament Team

■  Signed with The University of Tennessee Chattanooga

Marshall Sanders

■  Named to the NJCAA Region VIII All-Tournament Team

■  Signed with Kentucky Wesleyan College

■  Won 2000-01 NCAA Division II National Championship with Kentucky Wesleyan College Men’s Basketball Team

■  NCAA Division II National Championship All-Tournament Team

■  2001-02 NCAA Division II National Champion runner-up (Kentucky Wesleyan College)
