WATCH: They say dog is man’s best friend, but Walter Hickox of Daytona took the saying to a whole new level when he fought off a bear on his porch, to protect his dogs. (Inside Edition video)

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA — Walter Hickox, of Daytona Beach, could be seen on his Ring doorbell camera security footage jumping between a bear and his dog before physically fighting the wild animal off, and fencing off his porch with a bench.

Hickox told Inside Edition that the first thing he noticed when he saw the bear on his porch was that it was fixated on his dog.

Hickox’s Ring camera showed him on  his patio with his three dachshunds when a black bear crawled over a pet gate and that’s when Hickox lunged toward the bear, pushing it out the door.

According to WESH TV, Walter suffered some puncture wounds and scratches but did not need an ambulance.
