5 Health Trends to Watch During 2022

By  //  February 25, 2022

2022 promises to be a big year for both physical and mental wellness. As the world exits the pandemic and the restrictions that accompanied it, there is a greater focus on personal well being.

Of course, that means that people will be looking to the latest wellbeing developments, and the below shortlist features some of the more popular health trends to be aware of.

Tracking Fitness Parameter

Fitness trackers come in a variety of forms, either as dedicated hardware or as software included with devices such as smart watches. These intelligent devices allow the user to track physical activity such as heart beats per minute in real time. This allows even amateurs to tailor their workout with the view to seeing even more pronounced results.

This sort of information used to be limited to professional sports or at least very keen hobbyists. However fitness trackers are now much more attainable. In addition, there has been an increase in the number of devices, such as smartwatches, that can effectively run this insightful software, allowing more people to take advantage of it.

Interest in fitness trackers and smart watches  is something that has been growing for a while but the 2020 pandemic saw sales slow, possibly due to stay at home instructions. However, fitness trackers have rebounded well and sales improved by an impressive 47% in 2021 showing promise for 2022.

CBD

CBD, or cannabidiol has gone from an obscure wellness ingredient to something of a household name in a very short period of time. CBD is a cannabinoid, which is the given name to a group of compounds found in hemp or cannabis. CBD itself does not have any psychotropic effects associated with recreational cannabis use and is prized for its suspected health benefits.

While research is still going on, CBD is commonly viewed as an efficacious treatment for hard-to-treat ailments such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain and even skincare.

The best CBD dosage is still something that is being discussed and researched. Currently, recommended dosages are based on initial safety tests, but as more research is done we can expect more confident numbers that will encourage even more people to try CBD.

By far the most common way of using CBD is via CBD oils, which are taken orally. Recently, more dosing methods have become available and include CBD e-liquids, CBD gummies and CBD topicals. CBD is so popular in fact that the CBD market was valued $2.8bn in 2020 and is predicted to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 21.2% until 2028.

Vaping for Smoking Cessation

While smoking has been known to have disastrous health consequences for decades, effective treatments have been hard to find. Even popular traditional smoking cessation methods such as nicotine gums, patches and sprays have been questioned, leaving the door open for vaping as an effective method for quitting smoking.

The number of vapers has grown massively with a number of vaping tech developments making e-cigarettes more accessible. E-cigarettes work by vaporising e-liquid for inhalation, being able to deliver nicotine in a similar manner to a cigarette. However, research shows that vaping is up to 95% healthier than smoking cigarettes.

Furthermore, research by the UK Health Security agency has shown that with the help of vaping, those who look to quit smoking are more than twice as likely to succeed. With a plethora of vape brands now creating more flavours, devices and ways to vape, the future of e-cigarettes looks set to accelerate even further in 2022.

Immune System Boosting

Following the global pandemic, there has understandably been a rising interest in improving one’s immune system. According to research by Bupa, Google searches for subjects including ‘boost immune system’ increased by a notable 85%.

This represents an opportunity for a number of wellness brands that already have the products and distribution needed to capitalise on this interest. Furthermore, due to the immune system being affected by a number of factors including sleep, nutrition and exercise, there are many avenues for marketing.

This could encompass a great number of products, from supplements to exercise technology and presents an opportunity to many businesses. It may even be the case that existing products find a new lease of life under an immune system marketing campaign.

Mindfulness Products

Mindfulness concerns a variety of activities that help focus the mind and prevent it from being overwhelmed by day-to-day problems or situations. These common feelings are thought to be a contributing factor to poor mental health, a common talking point of recent times.

In fact, research shows that  21% of adults experienced mental illness, and 5.6% experienced serious mental health problems in the U.S in 2020. The causes are multifarious, but this clearly displays a need for greater mental health care both from authorities and personally.

Like the immune system though, mental health problems can be addressed by a number of different factors. Of course, professional medical help may be required, but many people are finding practises like mindfulness can help to improve their general mental health.

Even simple activities such as taking aromatic baths and yoga can help centre the mind and reduce a heightened sense of stress. 2022 certainly promises to capitalise on the current mental health crisis with a surge in mindfulness products designed to help people improve their mental wellbeing.
