CITY OF PALM BAY: first in U.S. to attain award

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The City of Palm Bay said the Palm Bay Building Department has achieved the International Accreditation Services Building Department Recognition.
“The Palm Bay Building Department is the first in the United States to attain the award,” said Palm Bay city officials.
The IAS is an internationally recognized, independent, accreditation organization.
Their accreditation programs include the Recognition of Building Departments that have been found to be in conformance with the IAS Recognition Criteria for Building Departments, Code Enforcement Departments, and Third-Parties Providing Building and/or Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Services (RC418).
“The award of Building Department Recognition is confirmation that a Building Department has been found to be providing services at a high technical and professional level,” said Palm Bay city officials.
As part of the process of seeking IAS Building Department Recognition, the department’s policy, procedures, and operations were assessed for conformance to RC418.
The department demonstrated success in developing and implementing a Quality Management System (QMS), that included generating service goals regarding the timeliness, quality, and staff professionalism in the delivery of permitting, plan review, and inspection services.
The QMS also includes internal audit policies and procedures to regularly monitor progress toward achieving the established service goals.
“Throughout the entire assessment process, Mr. Perez and his team continuously demonstrated a strong commitment to providing quality permitting, plan review, and inspection service to the customers they serve,” said the lead assessor.
