Chad Raymond Steps Down as Viera Football Coach, Shane Staples Named Interim Head Coach

Former Florida Tech Panther’s assistant Chad Raymond has stepped down as head coach of the Hawks football team after being selected for the job in January. In response to Raymond’s resignation, Viera named Shane Staples, above, as the Hawk’s interim head coach, who has been a member of the coaching staff for the last five years.

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Former Florida Tech Panther’s assistant Chad Raymond has stepped down as head coach of the Hawks football team after being selected for the job in January.

Raymond, a former Florida Tech assistant who spent seven seasons with the Panthers under numerous roles, said family commitments were the deciding factor in his resignation.

In response to Raymond’s resignation, Viera named Shane Staples as the Hawk’s interim head coach, who has been a member of the coaching staff for the last five years.

Staples, who coached the Hawk’s receiving corps last season, will lead the team through the upcoming spring football season as Viera High officials revisit their search for a new permanent head coach.

Spring football practice is set to kick off on the Space Coast begin April 25.
